May 22, 2013 - Curiosity Killed The Cat…

But it didn’t kill the dog.  Oh sure, it trapped the dog, to my eternal amusement, but she didn’t even get hurt.

It started out small, with Jaime following me into the bathroom.  Then it happened… she noticed the bath tub and you could see the bubble forming over her head:

“Hmmm what’s this?”
 "Uh-oh... ummm...."

"Maybe I can just...get my foot... up..."

Mommy.... Help?

"I promise I wont do that again... Think she see's my toes are crossed?"

Review: 4.5 out of 5 stars
Cari Hunter hits another one out of the park!

From the moment I started reading this story I was drawn into the characters and their respective stories.  As a reader I really enjoyed how we were introduced to each character individually and that there was just enough of a back story for the reader to understand that both Alex and Sarah are incredibly scarred both literally and figuratively; without that becoming the entire story.

The other great thing is despite the fact that there is some romance in the story, this is not the stereotypical “romance”.  There is plenty of action and for me a bit of intrigue.  Normally I would say I’d like to see these characters again but I don’t think there is one more thing that could be thrown at these two, barring an apocalypse.  However, I think it would be interesting to come across these two later as supporting characters in another story.  Oh and if Cari Hunter did write a story around an apocalypse I’d read that too.

May 20, 2013 - When Did Rape Become Cool?

Once again I find myself reading about a story where 3 teenage boys “allegedly” raped a 12 year old girl at gun point.  It would seem that they were so very proud of themselves and their actions that they videotaped it and posted the rape on their Facebook pages.  I’m torn about what I find more appalling: (a) The fact that these 3 boys raped a young girl.  (b)That they raped a young girl and thought “Hey let’s tape this as a trophy so … I don’t know… so they could watch all the action again like it’s what a vacation video?”  Or that they did (a) and (b) and then (c) posted it on Facebook because…. Again what?  That it’s such a cool thing to do that they want all their “friends” to watch them? I guess there is some small consolation that they least they are making it easy on the police to find evidence.  I’m also pleased that they are being tried as adults, but I’m stuck wondering … again…. What is wrong with people?  Sure I can say teenagers are stupid, because they are.  I certainly was when I was a teenager.  They typically don’t have the let’s say experience to think beyond the immediate action they are about to take part in to think of the possible ramifications and consequences but hey I’m talking common stupidity: drinking and driving, shoplifting, getting into a fist fight.  When did teenagers graduate to rape at gun point?  When did teenagers get so stupid that watching a girl be sexually assaulted is considered “funny” and doesn’t require intervention?  Maybe this happened when I was a teenager and its just social media that makes us more aware, but it’s appalling that this goes on and I am sure there will be a backlash that somehow the girl should have known not to put herself in the situation.  When will we get to the point where boys/men/society says “Rape, under any circumstances is not ok”?  When will we accept that if someone can’t or does not consent, forced sex is not ok?

I know there are alot of good men out there who would never rape a woman, even if she were dancing around naked, drunk, saying “yes yes I want to have sex with  you” and then 5 minutes later changed their mind and said… No.  The good man would walk away, frustrated perhaps, but there are lots of good men who would.

I just realized I just don't get it and I don't want to, I want it to stop.

May 15, 2013 – Powerball and Ice Cream

Apparently they go hand in hand.  At least that is my excuse.  I am officially blaming powerball for my failure to avoid both Ben & Jerry.  The lottery is something like $300 million tonight and what the heck, that’s worth the $2 for a chance, because Yes I really would like to figure out what I would do with all that money.  Here’s the rub, the likelihood that I will win Powerball is slim to none.  Oh and those evil lottery people are in cahoots with the ice cream people because you can’t buy a powerball ticket without venturing into a place that also sells ice cream.  How’s a girl supposed to avoid the ice cream when she’s in an emotionally fragile state?  I’m suffering from PMS.. well MS the “P” is past.  Oh fine, I admit it, the powerball ticket was just an excuse to buy the damn ice cream and it was good.  GREAT even.  I may not win the lottery but I enjoyed the ice cream.  Oh and yes I did work out again today with the trainer, and yes she did kill me again although not quite as bad.  It could be because I’m a little stiff from the other day and the fact that I am working out with her tomorrow too.  Ohh and do you all know what Burpee’s are?  I didn’t.  Now I do.  Plus I can attest to the fact that the name “Burpee” doesn’t do the exercise justice… but calling it “throwupees” probably wouldn’t entice people to do them.

May 14, 2013 - And More Randomness

Alrighty - so yesterday I worked out with the new trainer and this evening my legs are starting to stiffen up.  What's the solution to this in CAB's world?  Go running with your sister in a short while.
Well not "your" sister, rather MY sister.  She should be here in 30 minutes which should be plenty of time for me to drag my butt out of this chair.  Plenty of time...  Can someone lend me a hand?

Tomorrow is day 2 of my workout with the trainer by then I should be either slightly more cripple or slightly less.  Either way we will be having a repeat performance because it will only get better.

Have I mentioned that I have started volunteering at Planned Parenthood?  I have.  Not at one of the clinics but in the state corporate office helping out with some clerical and data related stuff.  The people are very nice and I'm having a good time.

Why is it that the dogs (a) insist on playing tag INSIDE the house and (b) insist on incorporating me as part of the obstacle course?

May 13, 2013 - Knock Knock.. Whose There? ME

Step one: start over….

I joined a new gym over the weekend and connected with the same trainer that L is using.  Or rather I should say, I connected with the trainer, liked her and decided to join the gym as well.

Today was my 1st workout with her and she killed me, in a good way, but it was definitely a good workout.  I got there a ½ hour early and ran on the treadmill.  I managed to run a mile at a 10 min pace and then switched to running and walking.  So now I have some goals:

Run 3 miles on the treadmill at a 10 min pace before walking.

Drop enough weight so my pants fit comfortably and I feel good

Put on enough muscle mass so I can do unassisted pull-ups again.  (Which is contingent on the drop weight goal)

Step 2:  Repeat

Well repeat the working out part not the starting over part.  I feel good, mentally and emotionally and I need to just remind myself that when I work out that is a byproduct.  It also helps that I have scheduled appointments through July :D

So other than the above goals I have a couple others:

I want to run in a couple more 5K races, then I want to run a 10K, and finally I am seriously thinking of trying to run a ½ marathon and along those lines I am thinking of trying to arrange it so that I run the one in Zurich that I failed to run last year, but if I can manage that one I will find another.
