April 29, 2013 – Self Control and Random Thoughts

Can it be a random thought when it’s the same thought running through my head ALL day long?  At this very moment the primary thought that is running through my head is chocolate.  At one point I was actually grateful that we didn’t have any Nutella in the house because I would definitely have eaten alot of it.  Right now the only thing stopping me from opening the can of chocolate frosting in the pantry the concern that I would eat the entire thing.  Well that and the fact that I am not a HUGE frosting fan.  So I guess that’s 2 things.  I did however succumb to the chocolate sundae syrup in the fridge.  Is it really so wrong to squeeze a table spoon out and eat it just like that?  I didn’t think so, well not at that exact moment.  Oh and yes I did stop after that 1st spoonful.  Ok, fine I stopped and only because my pants are too tight.  If they weren’t I’d have gone to the grocery store to resolve this craving.  I think this is my cue to go for a run or a walk.

April 29, 2013 – Weekend Update

Running

I ran a 5K race this weekend.  I had been running fairly well a few months ago but fell off the track and have only started back again a week or two ago.  As a result, my race goal was just to finish the thing.  I managed to force myself to run the 1st 2 miles without walking but after that all bets were off.  There was even a moment where I was trying to figure out if there was a shortcut but considering I didn’t have a clue where I was I just followed the crowd.    I walked and ran the last mile and finished the race in 35:04.  I consider it a win.  Oh and did I mention the running mystery?  During the race I kept passing this woman wearing a pink sweatsuit that said “Phi Theta Pink” on the back.  I went by this outfit at least 5 times and after the 3rd time I started to wonder if there were several woman wearing similar things.  Like maybe a team or fundraiser.  Especially because I would pass this her while she was walking but never saw her pass me. Turns out it was the same woman and she must just be very stealthy when she would run past me.  That or I was too busy looking for a shortcut to notice when she would past me.

Gardens

I’m still working quite a bit in the gardens trying to get them under control the majority of the flower beds are/were pretty overgrown.  I have the front beds cleaned up but I am waiting for a friend to come and remove several of the bushes that have gotten too large.  Then I need to replace those.  Then there are quite a few plants that need to be split.  I’m working on cleaning up the beds in the back yard so I can split those plants and transplant them to the back.

Dogs

Well this one is easy.  The beastly boy looks good and the girlie is HUGE

They do "do" things other than sleep, it's just tougher to get a picture of them.

April 24, 2013 - Bacon

Some time ago I bought a package of Turkey Bacon, it was on sale and I thought I would give it a whirl because I think Turkey Pepperoni is ok.  So here’s what I’ve discovered after several tests:

(1)   You can tell yourself you can’t tell the difference between bacon Bacon and Turkey Bacon.  You’re deluding yourself.

(2)   You know who can’t tell the difference between Bacon and Turkey Bacon?  Dogs.  Dogs just don’t care.  It hits the floor they think “FOOD” and swallow it before they can even taste it.  Hell they have the same reaction when a fork hits the floor.  It came from the counter, it hit the floor, it MUST be FOOD.  Not really a ringing endorsement.

(3)   You know why Turkey Pepperoni is ok versus Turkey Bacon?  They are small, round, bit sized, and loaded with spices.  Turkey Bacon is kind of like chewing on cardboard but more difficult.

(4)   If I am ever going to go through the effort of making bacon again, you can bet it will be real.

April 17, 2013 - My Dog Ate My Homework

Up until few days ago I would never have imagined actually having a legitimate reason for using that sentence.  The other day a friend came by and dropped off a copy of some software instructions that they need some help with.  Over the weekend I didn’t want to look at it so I left the directions on the coffee table.  I admit maybe I was courting disaster because the table is dog nose height, but in the past things on the table were safe unless it was a food item.

So the other day I got up early took the dogs for a long walk and then afterward left them in the house while I ran to the grocery store.  That might have been my second mistake.  I returned home a short time later and was greeted by two happy dogs.  Usually the beast is the only one greeting me at the door.  The girlie tends to stay lounging wherever she is expecting you to greet her.  Then I spotted it, the photocopied instructions are all over the living room floor…. shredded into small pieces.  I can’t say with absolute certainty that the girlie was responsible but she is a “person of interest” in this case.

If I’d have been smart (no I wouldn’t have put the instructions on a higher surface) I would have taken a picture of the result so I could share.  Alas, I did not.
Oh and speaking of the girlie, she is a GIANT.  My best guess is she’s 70 pounds but I have to weigh her
