September 5, 2012 – Rome Italy

Well I’ll apologize for not posting this yesterday, but things were a little hectic.  So let’s see.  We spent two days in Rome packing as much into our sightseeing as our poor feet could handle.  You would think jogging would equip you to better handle walking around a city.  It doesn’t, after a long day my feet were screaming.

So what did we do?

We went to Saint Peter’s Cathedral, had a tour of the catacombs to see Saint Peter’s grave.  Now I should point out that the catacombs are very interesting but wicked hot.  They told us the humidity level is 97%, so combined with the heat you really can’t get out of there fast enough.  In fact, it seems that people needing to get out and “fainting” is not an uncommon occurrence.

We also had a tour of the Vatican Museum and the Sistine Chapel.  We weren’t allowed to take photo’s inside the museum or the Chapel but I did take these pictures.  One is on the grounds and the other is a picture of the dome of Saint Peter’s Cathedral.

I have a thing for statues and interesting architecture and Rome feeds that quirk really well.  This is one of the few cities I would like to go back to see more of because there is just so much to see.

Some of my favorite things we saw:
